Well here we are at the end of the road. It has been hard at times
and lately since we got so far behind it has really been a chore and
it has bothered me to be behind and unable to catch up.
For the most part, though, it has been a lot of fun. The hard
parts are getting them mailed in a prompt manner. The easiest part
was doing the notes. The most fun part was meeting a lot of you and
getting to know you and I hope to meet more of you at the National
Convention in San Antonio. We will be there to socialize and have
fun. If you see us (we look like our picture) say hello and
introduce yourself. We can maybe even share a dance and that would
be neat. I’m doing an educational panel but don’t know which one
yet.
One of the accomplishments I am proud of is that from day one we
never had to raise subscription rates but one time in these 12 & 1/2
years. That includes at least two postal rate increases and having
to change printers a couple of times.
Some of you have been with us since our first issue and we
appreciate you for that. We also have quite a number of overseas
subscribers and we certainly appreciate you. We have enjoyed having
Bob and Marie Shiver of A & S Records send us records to review each
month and for being our close friends for many years. Also Tom and
Pam Dillander of Palomini Records for their help with the
subscribers who used Visa and Mastercard to subscribe. Tom told me
that if every caller would buy one record each month it would pay
the producers and distributors to keep doing vinyl. I get some comps
but I still average buying 2 or 3 records each month. One record
each month would cost about $6.00 per month and if you enjoy calling
then you should be willing to spend that much at least. I know some
of you pay a lot more to play golf and that gives you satisfaction.
Square dance calling gives you satisfaction and it also gives the
dancers satisfaction so you should be willing to give them your
best.
We’d also like to thank Don Ward for doing our contra page for
many years. He is a great contra teacher and cuer.
In the Blue Star ad this month you’ll see where Buddy Weaver is
starting a new website which I am going to do some things for and I
am going to do the notes once each quarter. He’s also going to
present some other writings from some other note services from the
past and that should be interesting for all of us. The way I
understand it this will be a free service. I think you will enjoy
it.
Most of all we thank you, our subscribers, for your support and
your loyalty. Thanks a bunch.
